The Boat Dock and Lake Frontage

If you like being by the water, you're in for a real treat when you stay with us. Flathead Lake is considered a jewel in the Crown of the Continent. Flathead is one of the worlds largest freshwater lakes and is also among the cleanest lakes in the world.

One of our neighbors in Yellow Bay is the University of Montana Biological Station where scientists study the field of limnology (fresh water). The Biological station recently celebrated its 100th birthday and because of the scientific knowledge gathered at the Bio Station, the Flathead's crystal clear waters have a excellent chance of being preserved and protected.

Sunrise on Yellow Bay

Like all large lakes, the Flathead has many moods. She can be as calm as a tiny pond in a protected woods or as rough as the ocean with large breakers that pound against the shore. In the warmer summer months the water surface temperature can rise to a comfortable level for swimming and snorkeling. Even if the wind has been blowing, the lake is perfect for a cooling plunge during a hot afternoon.

As you can see from this picture, the lake and boat dock are just steps away from the private entrances to the rooms. There is a landscaped grassy area for lounging and furniture and umbrellas for shade and relaxation.

Guests can utilize the dock area if they should want to rent a boat and explore the lake for a day.

Flathead Lake is an excellent lake for fishing. There are charters available if you want to go for the big ones that lurk in the depths, or you can use our canoe and jig for the nice sized lake trout that spend their days in the shallow waters of Yellow Bay or just off Yellow Bay point.

Our Coleman canoe is available at no charge to our guests.
